"Inspection" covers two different things worth telling apart: the code-required inspection after a new installation, and a voluntary system check to catch problems on an existing unit.
A post-installation inspection is performed by your local building/electrical authority to confirm the work meets code before the system is signed off. A system health inspection, done by a technician, checks wiring, fuel connections, the pad, and the transfer switch on an existing unit without necessarily doing full maintenance.
A code inspection confirms the installation met code at the time — it isn't the same as an ongoing maintenance check and doesn't replace one.
